Alfa Romeo Tool Kit Recommendations
Go ahead, have a chuckle, I've had to use these at times on extended tour on my car and to help others - things happen LOL.
If one is new to touring with an Alfa, it may be useful to pack a few items in a shoe box or other suitable small container:
Sockets 8mm through 22mm
Wrenches 6mm through 22mm
Socket wrench and extensions
Pliers
Channel locks
Crescent wrenches, one big, one small
Needlenose pliers
“C” wrenches – 11-13mm for exhaust headers etc.
A few long and short flat and phillips screwdrivers
Fuses
Bulbs
Spark plugs
Spark plug or coil wire,
Alternator/fan belt
Spica pump belt, if applicable,
Oil Filter
Oil
Spica main fuel filter gasket/o-ring
Spica tank fuel filter
Fuel line, 5/16” and 7/16”, a few feet of each
Hose clamps, various sizes
Ignition module (if you have a Marelli Plex coil/distributor)
Points, condenser, rotor, cap, points file
Feeler gauges .012” to .040” minimum
Spare relay SPST 30amp s/b OK
Electrical tape
Spare electrical wire – 12 gauge, with male and female ends
Electric multi meter (cheapo one is fine)
Wire cutter/stripper
Rags
Spare wheel lug nuts (alloy wheels sometimes use different size nuts than those used for steel spare wheels)
Heater hose coolant filler kit - this is one of those things that splices in with hose clamps. Quick compact fix for a broken heater hose.
1/2" drive ratchet with 6" extension and sockets 17mm-36mm.
Duct tape
Fuel pump
1/4" socket kit for small bolts.
Octane booster, for when rural gas isn/t premium
For the long haul consider: Tow Rope, Jumper Cables, Fix-a-Flat, a few Nuts & Bolts
Two recent cases on tour: An old Spider blew an oil filter seal, luckily a suitable replacement was found at a store a few miles up the road. I’ll bet we see more than a few spare filters on this year’s tour. Another old Spider had a new style electronic ignition fitted, which failed on a remote section. Luckily it had a fail-safe mode switch in order to allow the car to get home safely. Although we each may not have all the above (and more), as a group we’re always able to help each other get home safe and sound with goodies we pack away!
